The Microtext Collection

The Microtext Room is located in the Ingram wing of the library. The collection contains an impressive array of microtext materials consisting of microfilm, microfiche and microcards. Microfilms are arranged by number, fiche are filed alphabetically by title in separate cabinets.

Guides and indexes to individual film and fiche collections are shelved along the walls in the Microtext Room. The guides describe some of the film and fiche collections and how to use them.

Reader/printers for use in copying film or fiche are available in the Microtext Room. These machines use dimes only.

During peak hours, including weekends, a student assistant is on duty to help patrons find and use the collections and the printed guides which accompany them. The assistants will help locate microfilm, microfiche and microcards and give instructions on use of readers/printers. They also will assist in the use of print indexes such as the New York Times, Times (London), Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and Palmer's Index to the Times (London). Back issues of these newspapers, on microfilm, are shelved in the cabinets nearby the indexes.

Printouts from the film or fiche are $.l0 a page. If you need help and there is no student assistant available, ask a librarian at the Research Desk.
